Bangladesh have announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming Cricket World Cup that will begin from 30th May in England. Pace bowler Abu Jayed has been included in the squad despite not playing a single limited-overs game for Bangladesh.
He certainly impressed the selectors with his swing bowling during the tour of New Zealand last month. All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain also makes a return to the World Cup squad. His last appearance came for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup played in the UAE last year.
Pace bowler Taskin Ahmed and opening batsman Imrul Kayes were notable absentees from the World Cup squad.
Bangladesh Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin said that Abu Jayed has been selected for his ability to swing the new-ball. Mosaddek is a good option in the middle-order and can bowl off-spin if required by the captain.
Mosaddek has been in exception form and scored 428 runs in 12 matches in the Dhaka Premier League. On the other hand, Jayed also claimed 12 wickets in the Bangladesh’s domestic one-day tournament.
Pacer Abu Jayed and all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain included in the 15-member squad for the Cricket World Cup that will be played in England.
Captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim are experienced players included in the World Cup squad. Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain are premier options in the bowling department.
Wicket-keeper Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar have been retained in the World Cup squad despite lack of runs with the bat in the past six months. The selectors have included uncapped players Yasir Ali and Nayeem Hasan for the Ireland Tri-series that will be played in the month of May.
Batsman Yasir Ali played exceedingly well for Chittagong Vikings in the Bangladesh Premier League while off-spinner Nayeem Hasan also showed promise due to his splendid performances against West Indies in a two-match Test played at home last year.
