All-rounder Ben Stokes has signed a three-year deal with Durham which see him stay with the county side till the 2024 season. Currently, Ben Stokes is recovering from a finger injury. He also did not play in the five-match Test series against India after clearly stating he needed break to take care of mental health. However, England selectors have picked for the Ashes against Australia to be played down under.
Since making his debut for county side like Durham, Ben Stokes has accumulated 3611 runs in 64 first-class matches. His highest score in first-class cricket for Durham was 185 runs against Lancashire. All-rounder also represented Durham in 62 Vitality T20 Blast matches. His career best performance came against Yorkshire in 2018.
Ben Stokes expressed his pleasure after signing a three-year contract with Durham. All-rounder stated that he has great memories at Durham over the years. He said that he would love to contribute more with bat and ball for Durham.
Left-hander batsman has played almost 150 first-class matches (including 73 Tests for England. He has scored 8,489 runs at an average of 35.07 with 18 centuries and 43 half-centuries. His career-best performance in Test cricket came against South Africa at Newlands Cricket Ground. He scored a scintillating 258 runs against the likes of Morkel and Philander. With the ball in hand, Stokes has picked up 341 wickets at an verage of 29.68 with seven five-fors to his name.
Durham Director of Cricket, Marcus North said that Ben Stokes is a great player in all three formats. His stay at the club does bring a lot of positives for Durham. He further stated that he was excited to see Stokes fully recover from injury and taking the field again. He has been included in England’s Test squad for Ashes series against Australia.
