Asia Cup 2018 – Statistical Overview

Asia Cup 2018 is scheduled to begin from 15th September in the United Arab Emirates. Six teams will take part in the competition and battle it out to capture the big prize. Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka are three strong sides in the tournament. Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong are also there and will be keen to make an impression in the competition.

The venues confirmed for the competition are Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where all 13 games will be played. Emirates Cricket Board are making efforts to make this year’s Asia Cup turns out to be a big success among cricket fans living in the Gulf region.

The opening game of Asia Cup will see Sri Lanka take on Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Here are some of key statistics with regards to Asia Cup which are as follows:

1984 was the first time Asia Cup was organized and surprisingly it was hosted in UAE. Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan were the only teams in the competition.

2016 was the only time when Asia Cup was played in a T20 Format.

6 times India has lifted the Asia Cup since its inception in 1984 which is most for any team playing in this year’s competition.

183 runs by Virat Kohli is the highest Individual score for any batsmen in Asia Cup’s history. Kohli achieved this feat in Asia Cup 2012 held in Bangladesh.

87 is the lowest total made by Bangladesh in a game played against Pakistan in Asia Cup.

385 runs is the highest score registered by Pakistan in the history of Asia Cup. The Green-shirts achieved this feat against Bangladesh in the 2010 Asia Cup.

13 Asia Cups have played till now. India has won 6 times while Sri Lanka is a close second with five titles. Pakistan last won the competition in 2012 in a close finish against Bangladesh.

It will certainly interesting as to who comes out on top in this year’s competition. India and Pakistan are favorites to lift the coveted trophy.
