Australia have announced their limited-overs squad for the upcoming one-day series against India. Travis Head, Chris Lynn, D’Arcy Short, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben McDermott and Ashton Agar have been dropped from the side due to poor performances.
The selectors have gone for experienced duo of Peter Siddle and Usman Khuwaja for the one-day series. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been selected for the series due to his consistently good performances at the domestic level.
The pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc have been rested so that they can prepare adequately for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Chief Selector Trevor Hohns stated the time was right to make wholesale changes in the limited-over setup. The side lost their last home series to South Africa played at home.
Hohns said the side has been picked in order to revive the fortunes of side in limited-overs format. The side has gone through their worst phase in limited-overs cricket with only three victories out of 21 games played since May 2017.
Veteran pace bowler Peter Siddle has made a return to the one-day squad. He last made his limited-overs appearance for Australia in November 2010. He will certainly lead the bowling attack that consists of promising pacers like Billy Stanlake, Jason Behrendorff and Jhye Richardson.
Mitchell Marsh and Peter Handscomb have retained their place in limited-overs squad.Australia ODI Captain Aaron Finch will lead the side for the upcoming three-match one-day series against India.
The opening game of the one-day series will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground on 12th January. The other two games will be played at Adelaide and Melbourne.
