Australia’s Mitchell Starc ruled out of Indian Premier League 2018

Mitchell Starc has now missed two back-to-back editions of Indian Premier League

Australia’s premier bowler Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2018 season due to a leg injury. He has been diagnosed with a “tibial bone stress” in his right leg and was effectively ruled out of the final game against South Africa to be played at Johannesburg.

Chadd Sayers is set to take his place in Final XI as fast bowler is set to make his debut for Australia at the Wanderers. Starc’s career has been plagued with injuries and also missed the Boxing Day game against England in Melbourne. A bruised heel saw him sit on the sidelines but regained full fitness to take part in the four-match series in South Africa. He felt discomfort in his leg during the third game of the series played at Newlands, Cape Town.

Starc being ruled out of the coming season is a setback for Kolkata Knight Riders who signed him during IPL Auction for a big price of Rs 9.4 crore. He was picked up to lead the bowling attack alongside Mitchell Johnson for the franchise. His injury will definitely leave a void as Kolkata Knight Riders will pick a replacement for him in the coming days.

Kolkata already have a lot of problems as they will be hoping that all-rounder Andre Russell and batsman Chris Lynn will be fit and available for the start of the season. Russell and Lynn were suffering from injuries and might recover in time before the franchise’s first game. Vinay Kumar, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Jevon Searles and Shivam Mavi are the other pace options for Kolkata for the upcoming 11th edition of Indian Premier League.

Sunil Narine might be also under the spotlight after reported to suspect bowling action during Pakistan Super League 2018. Kolkata will be wary that could lose Narine if he gets reported for illegal bowling action in the coming IPL season.
