Eight uncapped players named in Afghanistan’s Test squad for Zimbabwe series

Afghanistan Cricket Board, Director of Cricket, Raees Ahmadzai said that selection committee has decided to provide opportunities to young players, who done consistently well in the domestic competition. He said uncapped players can also stake a claim in the ODI and T20I squads as well in the future.

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan is expected to be back for the series after making his debut for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. Experienced batsman Asghar Afghan will lead the side for the Two-match Test series to be played in the UAE.

After his brief stint in PSL, Leg-spinner Rashid Khan will be looking to deliver his absolute best for Afghanistan in red-ball cricket.

In four Test matches played, Rashid has claimed 23 wickets at an average of 21.08. He has also picked three five wicket hauls to his name. The 22-year old picked career best figures of 11 for 104 to help Afghanistan beat Bangladesh in a one-off Test played at Chattogram in 2019.

Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Peshawar Zalmi), Noor Ahmad (Karachi Kings) and Qais Ahmad (Quetta Gladiators) will continue to play in the Pakistan Super League after not being picked for the Test series against Zimbabwe.

Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will certainly knockout stages of PSL to participate in Afghanistan T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting from March 17 in Abu Dhabi.
