Emirates Cricket Board announce ODI squad for Zimbabwe series

Emirates Cricket Board have named their 14-man squad for the upcoming one-day series against Zimbabwe. It is certainly going to be a historic occasion as UAE will play their first-ever one-day series against a full-member nation like Zimbabwe. The four-match one-day series will be played in Zimbabwe from 10th to 16th April, 2019. All the games in the one-day series will be played at Harare Sports Club in Harare.

Earlier this year, UAE suffered defeat in the one-day series played against Nepal in January. Former Captain Rohan Mustafa makes a return to the limited-overs squad for Zimbabwe series. He was banned by Emirates Cricket Board for eight weeks after failing to comply with the “Players Code of Conduct”.

Rameez Shahzad has been ruled out of the upcoming one-day series after suffering from a finger injury sustained last month. Emirates Cricket Board Chief Selector Waleed Bukhatir said that we have developed strong relations with Zimbabwe Cricket since 2017. The two countries signed a playing agreement to play each other on a regular basis. He also thanked Zimbabwe Cricket for their support and cooperation due to which UAE will be playing their maiden bilateral one-day series against Zimbabwe.

Waleed Bukhatir also stated the quality of cricket has been on rise among the Associate nations. He said the associate cricket can certainly grow exponentially if offered more support by various full-member nations. He said that Emirates Cricket Board’s main aim is to build cordial relations with all members of the ICC.

UAE will certainly be looking to do well in the upcoming four-match one-day series against Zimbabwe. They will fancy their chances as Zimbabwe are missing keys players like Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza.
