Bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes and left-arm medium-pacer David Willey has been named in England’s 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The series is slated to begin from 23rd June in Cardiff.
Chris Woakes made his last T20I appearance for England in 2015 in a game played against Pakistan. On the other hand, Willey has been overlooked by the selectors despite being doing well in the home series against Ireland.
Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson also makes his comeback to T20I squad. He made his last appearance for England in the T20 format in 2018. Meanwhile, Reece Topley, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer were not picked as they recovering from injuries.
England Head Coach Chris Silverwood said that the selectors have decided to name their T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. With the pool of players at their disposal, the national side wants to continue their winning trend in the shortest format of the game. England will certainly start as favorites to win the ICC T20 World Cup.
Chris Woakes and David Willey have been picked for the home series against Sri Lanka. Both are experienced players who done well at the international stage for England. The side by Eoin Morgan has a lot of depth and will be keen to dominate the proceedings against Sri Lanka in this T20I series.
The first two matches the T20I series will be played in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on 23rd and 24th June respectively. The Ageas Bowl in Southampton will host the third and final game on 26th June. On the other hand, Sri Lanka have announced their T20I and ODI squad for tour of England.
