Australia’s premier leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been signed by Essex for the upcoming season of NatWest T20 Blast.Essex have been tremendous in the one-day competition in the country for the last five years but have failed to win a silverware during this time. They failed to make it to the semifinals of the NatWest T20 Blast in the last four editions.
Essex Head Coach Anthony McGrath has been keen to good sign world-class overseas players to break the jinx in this year’s competition.The side has picked Zampa, who has been consistent performer for Australia in the T20 format and has played in different leagues all over the world. He has played for Rising Pune in Indian Premier League and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League.
Adam Zampa holds an excellent record in the T20 format with 86 wickets in just 74 games.The 25-year old has been the first-choice spinner for Australia in the limited-overs and T20 format. He is included in the Australia’s T20 squad for Trans-Tasman tri-series which features England and New Zealand. Zampa also played in the bilateral one-day series against England and failed to make an impact with the ball in hand.
Anthony McGrath looked pleased with signing of Adam Zampa and stated that leg-spinner has been consistent performer in the T20 format. He said that Australian will bring his experience to good use as he has played in leagues like BBL, IPL and CPL during last couple of years.
Essex has been pro-active in signing big overseas players for this year’s NatWest T20 Blast. They also managed to sign Australian pacer Peter Siddle for red-ball cricket and will play first five games for Essex in the County Championship. The county side will also make a formal announcement for the post of new-assistant head coach in the coming weeks.
