New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham have signed for Essex for this year’s T20 Blast competition. After completing his stint with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, Neesham will be available for the preliminary games of the competition.
In 2016, James Neesham has played for Derbyshire in the T20 Blast. In 2017, he signed for Kent and participated in the T20 Blast competition.
After being signed by Essex, all-rounder James Neesham expressed his pleasure and was looking forward to playing for the county side this season. He stated that he was excited to play alongside Ryan Ten Doeschate for the coming season of T20 Blast. Both players have played with each other for New Zealand domestic side, Otago.
Essex Head coach, Anthony McGrath was pleased after signing James Neesham for the coming edition of T20 Blast competition. He further stated that county side will need to include a quality all-rounder that could add value with bat and ball for the coming season.
Neesham has played almost 143 T20I matches, in which he has scored 2,001 runs at an average of 25.65 with a strike rate of 138.76, which includes four half-centuries to his name.
With the ball in hand, Neesham has claimed 132 wickets at an average of 25.44 with an economy rate of 9.44. He has picked two four-wicket hauls in his T20 career.
Neesham was instrumental in helping New Zealand reach the finals of 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup played in England and Wales. Since his comeback to the national side, Neesham has been a bankable performer in white-ball cricket.
It will be interesting to see how James Neesham performs with bat and ball for county side Essex for the coming season of Vitality T20 Blast.
Currently, he is representing Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League taking place in India. Essex will be hoping that he can deliver the goods with bat and ball.
