Pakistan’s opening batsman Fakhar Zaman has signed for Glamorgan for their upcoming Vitality T20 Blast competition that begins from Monday.
Pugnacious opener will be available for the first eight matches of the competition. Zaman was brought in as a replacement for Shaun Marsh who sustained an injury during ICC Cricket World Cup played in England and Wales.
In the T20 format, Fakhar Zaman has accumulated 2339 runs in 89 games at an average of 27.84. He has scored one century and fourteen half-centuries in this format. While playing for Pakistan, he has scored 748 runs in 30 matches at an average of 25.79 with four half-centuries to his name.
Since making his debut for Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Zaman has been a bankable performer for the side in the limited-overs cricket. Left-hander had scored 1828 runs in 44 matches with an average of 45.70. He also became the first Pakistani player to score a double hundred in limited-overs cricket against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Zaman delivered a breathtaking hundred against India to see Pakistan lift their maiden ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval in 2017.
Opening batsman expressed his pleasure after being signed by Glamorgan for Vitality T20 Blast competition. He said he has fond memories of Cardiff due to their famous win over England in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Zaman said that is all geared up to do well for Glamorgan in this year’s competition.
Glamorgan Director, Mark Wallace, said that it was a setback of sorts to lose Shaun Marsh but the inclusion of Fakhar Zaman will put Glamorgan in a good position to start their competition on a positive note.
Wallace said that Zaman was a world-class player who has delivered match-winning performances for Pakistan over the past two years. He said that Zaman will add a lot of firepower at the top of the innings for Glamorgan.
