Former South African captain Faf du Plessis and spinner Imran Tahir have not been picked for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup to be played in UAE and Oman. Cricket South Africa have named their 15-man squad for this year’s ICC T20 World Cup.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Keshav Maharaj has managed to cement his place in the World Cup squad. He is the only uncapped player named in the squad for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.
The selection committee has decided to include three spinners-Tabraiz Shamsi, Bjorn Fortuin and Keshav Maharaj for the showpiece event. Maharaj has been a regular for South Africa in red-ball cricket. He has played 36 Test matches for South Africa.
He has made 14 appearances for South Africa in the one-day internationals. Left-arm spinner has yet to make his debut in the T20 format.
In 102 T20I matches, Keshav Maharaj has claimed 83 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 6.62.
Bowling all-rounder George Linde has been added as reserve player for the ICC T20 World Cup. Chris Morris declared that is not available for international cricket while selection committee decided to not include experienced players like Imran Tahir and Faf du Plessis for the World Cup.
All-rounder Wiann Mulder, who has made four appearances for South Africa in the T20 format, has been named in the 15-man squad for the World Cup.
South Africa have been placed in Group 1 with teams like West Indies, Australia, England and two qualifying teams. The Proteas will kick-start their World Cup campaign against southern hemisphere rivals Australia on 23rd October at Abu Dhabi.

George Linde Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams are the three reserve players for the competition.
