Joe Burns dropped, David Warner and Will Pucovski included in Australia squad for final two Tests against India

Swashbuckling opener David Warner has been included in the Australia’s Test squad for the final two games of the series against India. Joe Burns has been dropped from the side after not doing much with the bat in the Boxing Day Test played at Melbourne.

David Warner will have to go through fielding drills in order to get cleared for the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, starting from 7th January. Head Coach Justin Langer indicated that Warner will not be risked if he is not fully fit for the third Test against India. Left-hander will be looking to get fit in time for the game as Australia’s top-order crumbled in four innings against India’s potent bowling unit.

Cricket Australia Chief Selector Trevor Hohns said that Warner has made decent progress in his rehabilitation from injury sustained during the one-day series. Hohns further stated that Joe Burns has been dropped after failing to produce decent scores in the first two games of the Test series.

Pacer Sean Abbott and batsman Will Pucovski have been included in the Test squad for the remaining two-matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Pucovski was certain starter for the opening game but suffered a concussion during a warm-up game played against India.

Will Pucovski was originally part of the Test squad after producing big centuries in the Sheffield Shield competition. Due to impressive form with the bat, selectors called him up into the Test squad for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Trevor Hohns said that Pucovski is fully recovered from concussion and is certain to play for Australia in the Sydney Test against India.

Australia’s Test squad for the final two games: Tim Paine (captain), Pat Cummins (vice-captain), Travis Head, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Marcus Harris, Cameron Green, Sean Abbott, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Steve Smith, Mitchell Swepson, Michael Neser, Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques.
