Kane Williamson named captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad for this IPL season

Kane Williamson has been named as stand-in captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming IPL season. The announced was made by the franchise on Thursday (29th March). The decision was made after the ball-tampering scandal that resulted in David Warner being banned for 12 months. The pugnacious left-handed opener was sacked as the captain of the franchise after he accepted his role in the ball-tampering saga.

Williamson took to the social media and stated that it was an honor to lead the franchise in the coming season. He also said that he was looking forward to working with new players signed in the IPL Auction and the challenges that lie ahead for the franchise. Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named Williamson’s deputy for the forthcoming season.

David Warner was handed out a one-year from international cricket by Cricket Australia for their premeditated efforts to tamper the ball during the third game of the series at Newlands, Cape Town. BCCI made their stance clear and banned David Warner from taking part in the 2018 Indian Premier League.

The left-handed opener has resigned from the post of captaincy as Sunrisers Hyderabad took some days to decide the new-captain for the coming season. The side has not yet named a replacement for Warner who has been banned from taking part in the competition. Steven Smith’s resignation means that Ajinkya Rahane will the new leader for the side for the coming season. David Warner did exceedingly well as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and helped them lift their maiden IPL crown in 2016.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson made his debut for Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 edition of Indian Premier League. He was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and has managed to produce big scores on regular basis for the franchise in the competition
