Pacer Ishant Sharma ruled out of 2020 Indian Premier League due to a muscle tear

Delhi Capitals have suffered a minor setback as experienced pacer Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of 2020 Indian Premier League. The 32-year old suffered pain in his rib cage and went for further medical examination. It was revealed that Ishant Sharma has sustained a muscle tear and will take no further part in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The franchise issued a formal on statement on 12th October (Monday) that Ishant Sharma will miss the remaining matches of Indian Premier League. The franchise said that Sharma experienced an acute pain in his left rib cage, while bowling in the training session for Delhi Capitals on 7th October at Dubai. After doing a round of medical assessments, Sharma has suffered from a left internal oblique muscle tear.

Ishant Sharma was considered to be an important bowler in the pace department alongside South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada for this year’s competition. Last year, Ishant Sharma played the whole season for Delhi Capitals and claimed 13 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 26.84 with an economy rate of 7.58. He was expected to play a big role for Delhi Capitals for this year’s tournament.

The conditions in the United Arab Emirates might have suited his style of bowling as he likes to move the ball with both ways. He just played one match for Delhi Capitals and went wicketless against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Delhi Capitals have adequate resources in the pace bowling department as Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel and Mohit Sharma will be fighting for a place in the playing XI.  The void left by Ishant Sharma was filled by South Africa’s Anrich Nortje, who has delivered impressive bowling performances for the side so far this season.

Delhi Capitals are currently at the top of the league after winning five matches out of seven played so far this season.
