Pakistan Cricket Board cancelled Karachi ODI, Test against Bangladesh

Earlier this week, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), postponed the playoffs and final of Pakistan Super League due to coronavirus outbreak. Due to growing cases across the country, PCB has decided to suspend the upcoming one-off ODI and second Test against Bangladesh. The remainder of the home series was scheduled to be played in April.

The one-off ODI was scheduled to be played at National Cricket Stadium in Karachi. The second and final Test will be played at Karachi which was slated to begin from 5th till 9th April. The final game of the Test series was part of World Test Championship.

With home side currently 1-0 in the two-match series, courtesy emphatic win at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Azhar Al-led unit managed to beat Pakistan by an innings and 44 runs. Pakistan Cricket Board further stressed that the pending series against Bangladesh and PSL will be played later in the cricketing calendar.

Due to rise in the coronavirus cases across the country, it is estimated that the pending PSL matches might be played in October. Any decision made will be done in consultation with franchise owners and federal government.

Pakistan Cricket Board will also be working with Bangladesh Cricket Board  towards finding a window in the cricketing calendar in order to accommodate the one-off game and Test against Bangladesh.

Pakistan Cricket Board has also suspended the domestic competition such as Pakistan Cup. The list A tournament was scheduled to begin from 25th March. But due to coronavirus declared pandemic by World Health Organization, it resulted in the suspension of major cricketing events around the world. Earlier this month, England annulled their tour of Sri Lanka, while South Africa tour to India was called off.

Despite playing the opening game of the one-day series, 2020 Chappell-Hadlee Trophy played between Australia and New Zealand was cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic.
