Pakistan’s left-arm speedster Rumman Raees has been named the vice-captain for Islamabad United for the forthcoming third edition of Pakistan Super League. Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the side for the coming season with Raees serving as his deputy for the competition.
Misbah led Islamabad United to win the coveted prize in the inaugural Pakistan Super League played in 2016. Saeed Ajmal will also be part of Islamabad United for the coming season after announcing his retirement from the international game. He has appointed as bowling coach of Islamabad United for the coming season that will be played in Feb 2018.
Rumman Raees has done well for Islamabad United as he was their go-to-man in the death over last season. His impressive returns in the second edition of Pakistan Super League saw him earn his call-up to the national side. The left-arm pacer has given superb performances for Pakistan during this time and was part of Pakistan side that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England.
Islamabad United owner Ali Naqvi stated in a press conference held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore that the appointments were made in consultation with all key personnel involved in the setup. Naqvi said that Raees has done remarkably well for the side and will learn a great deal from Misbah as vice-captain of the side. Islamabad United Head Coach Dean Jones said that the decision was made with the right spirit as Raees has good cricket brain and has done tremendously well for the franchise in the previous edition.
On the question of Saeed Ajmal’s appointment as bowling coach, Naqvi clearly said that team management made the suggestion that the former Pakistani off-spinner would be an ideal candidate for the role. Ajmal also has played for Islamabad in the previous two editions and will able to work well with young players.
The third edition of the Pakistan Super League that will begin from 9th February.
