Pakistan all-rounder Rumman Raees is all set to replace Wahab Riaz in the Squad for ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC’s Event Technical Committee also gave approval of the change. The left-arm quick sustained an ankle injury during the game against India played on Sunday. Riaz was taken off the field and it was confirmed he would be sent back to Pakistan to recover from the injury. It will take approximately two weeks for Riaz to recover from injury.
Pakistan Cricket Board selection committee had only two choices to replace Wahab Riaz. Mohammad Abbas was under the spotlight for his incredible test performances while Rumman has shown consistently good form in the format. Raees was selected over Abbas for his better performances in the limited overs format and his great skills at the end of the innings.
Rumman Raees was third highest wicket taker in the second edition of Pakistan Super League played in February this year. He played for Islamabad United and bowled economical spells for the franchise. He was selected for the squad that played World T20 2016 in India last year. He did make his T20 debut against West Indies last September in UAE.
