Guyana Amazon Warriors has named Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik as the new captain of the franchise for the upcoming season of Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Former Pakistan Captain has experience of captaincy and did lead Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League. His career spans almost two decades at the highest level and has played 102 T20I games for Pakistan.
Guyana Head Coach Johan Botha said that the appointment of Shoaib Malik will definitely help the franchise for the coming season. He stated that all-rounder’s experience will bring value to the franchise and help them win their maiden trophy this year. Botha said that Malik is composed character and has excelled at the highest level for Pakistan on big occasions.
Shoaib Malik has been in good form for Pakistan in the shorter formats of the game. The 36-year old has been consistently producing good scores for Pakistan since the last couple of years. He will be keen to maintain his standards with the bat in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) that starts from 8th August.
Malik also did a decent job in Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans and will be keen to take Guyana to lift their maiden trophy this season. Guyana Amazon Warriors has been the most consistent side in the history of Caribbean Premier League and have been runners-up on three occasions. Under the new captain, Guyana would be keen to go one better and clinch their maiden title. Chadwick Walton was the highest run-scorer for Guyana in last year’s Caribbean Premier League.
All-rounder has plenty of experience and captained Pakistan in 36 T20 games, winning 24 out of those matches. Malik will be focused to start his captaincy on a winning note as Guyana Amazon Warriors will play their game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on 9th August on Thursday.
