Somerset sign Devon Conway for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast and English County Championship

New Zealand batsman Devon Conway has been signed by county side Somerset for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast followed by County Championship. Left-hander will join the Somerset county cricket club between 23rd June and 18th July. He will be available for Somerset for the nine matches for the county side.

Devon Conway is also set to make appearances for Somerset in two County Championship games.  The Somerset club said that Conway will need to obtain NOC from the New Zealand cricket board to fly to the UK.

After signing with Somerset, Devon Conway stated that he was looking forward to playing for Somerset in the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast. He said that he was looking to make an impact in his first stint for a county side in the UK.

Conway said that England certainly has conditions that test any player to the limit. He further stated that he can deliver runs on a regular basis for Somerset in the Vitality T20 Blast and English County Championship.

In 14 T20 matches played for New Zealand, Devon Conway has accumulated 473 runs at an average of 59.12 with a strike rate of 151. He smashed 99 not out against Australia in a T20 game played earlier this season.

Somerset CCC Director, Andy Hurry said that the side wanted to bolster their batting resources for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast and County Championship. With plenty of international cricket during the summer, the county side wanted a high-profile player for the coming season.

With England hosting ODIs and T20I series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Somerset wanted Devon Conway for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast competition. Andy Hurry stated that Devon’s career has been nothing short of sensational and will certainly add a lot of value to the squad for the Vitality T20 Blast competition.

Somerset Captain Lewis Gregory expressed that the signing of Devon Conway will certainly help their chances of fighting for the crown this season. He further stated that he is a promising talent and will be looking to make an impression with the bat in his first stint for Somerset in the coming season of Vitality T20 Blast.
