Sri Lanka have announced their 16-man squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Off-spinner Akila Dhananjaya has earned his maiden call-up to the test side after making his limited overs for Sri Lanka six months ago. Dhananjaya is the fourth spinner alongside Rangana Herath, Lakshan Sandakan and Dilruwan Perera in the Test squad.
Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera are two-quick bowlers included in the Test squad for the series. Vishwa Fernando and Dasun Shanaka have been excluded from the squad despite being in the setup for the three-match series in India. Left-handed batsman Lahiru Thiramanne and Sadheera Samarawickrama also found no place in the side after a string of poor performances against India in the three-match Test series.
Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka have been included in place of Thiramanne and Samarawickrama in the Sri Lanka Test squad for the tour of Bangladesh. Sri Lanka will have selection issues in terms of overall combination to play in the opening game against Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka spearhead Suranga Lakmal has been named vice-captain of the side while Asela Gunaratne was axed from the squad. He was overlooked for the series as he was out of action for almost five months after suffering from injury during home series against India.
