Sunrisers Hyderabad have suffered a huge setback as pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2020 Indian Premier League. The 30-year old pacer sustained a thigh injury during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s game against Chennai Super Kings.
Prithvi Raj Yarra has been named replacement for injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the overall squad for the remaining matches. Last season, left-arm pacer was with Kolkata Knight Riders and made his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The 22-year old went to only just two matches for Kolkata Knight Riders before being released from the squad for the coming season.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar put in decent performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s competition with 3 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 6.98. Sunrisers Hyderabad will feel that they enough bowling resources to fill void left by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Being the most experienced pace bowler in the squad, Sunrisers Hyderabad will definitely miss his presence on the field in crucial stages of the competition. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their previous fixture to Mumbai Indians and are currently lying in the bottom half of the league table.
Previously, Bhuvneshwar Kumar missed five matches of the 2018 Indian Premier League due to back problems. He also missed a couple of matches against England and West Indies in the same year.
Despite being not fully fit, he was named in India’s squad for the tour of Australia in 2018-19. He sat on the sidelines in all the four matches. In ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 staged in England and Wales, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was going through hamstring issues and missed three matches in the competition.
Due to injury concerns, he was selected for the home series against West Indies and also went on to miss the three Tests and three T20Is series against South Africa due to a side strain. When Bangladesh came to tour India, he missed the T20I series due to injury.
