Sussex rope in wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast

Australian wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey has signed for Sussex for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast competition. He will have an extended stay in England as the competition is set to begin from 18th July. Carey showed excitement and also expressed his desire to work with Jason Gillespie, who is the head coach of the county side.

He said that he will be looking to make an impression in his debut season for Sussex. Carey  has played for East Grinstead in the Sussex Premier League a couple of years ago so he will well prepared for what to expect in the competition. He said that he has heard a lot of Sussex fans and can’t wait to work with Gillespie for this year’s competition.

Left-handed batsman has produced excellent numbers in the T20 format and has accumulated 918 runs in 44 games at a strike rate of 128.93. He has one century and five half-centuries to his name. Jason Gillespie has worked with Carey previously as he is the head coach for Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

Former Australian pace bowler said that he is excited to work with Alex Carey for the coming season. He also stated that Carey has produced excellent numbers for Strikers at the top of the innings in the Big Bash League. He is currently part of Australia’s 15-man squad for 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Alex Carey has shown the ability to deliver decent scores in different conditions. He also did well for Australia in the bilateral one-day series played against India in India. Jason Gillespie said that Carey will certainly add a lot of value to the side for the Vitality T20 Blast competition. Left-hander will be keen to do well for the county side in this year’s tournament that is slated to begin in the month of July.
