Rashid Khan has enjoyed a considerable amount of success as leg-spinner at the international level. The Afghanistan-born player has been signed by Sussex for this year’s NatWest T20 Blast.
The leg-spinner has become the most valuable player in the T20 format and has put Afghanistan on the map in terms of producing world-class cricketers. He is set to play for Sussex for the first half of the NatWest T20 Blast. Sussex Head Coach Jason Gillespie is excited Sussex has signed Rashid for this year’s campaign. Gillespie was the Head coach of Adelaide Strikers who lifted their maiden title in the Big Bash League.
Rashid was instrumental with the ball for Adelaide Strikers as he picked up 18 wickets in 11 games in the recently concluded Big Bash League. He picked up crucial wickets in the middle overs of the innings to see Strikers lift their maiden crown this year.
He will be playing in this year’s Indian Premier League as he was signed for US1.4 million for Sunrisers Hyderabad for the coming season. The 19-year old has gained a lot of experience by playing in leagues like Bangladesh Premier League and Caribbean Premier League.
Sussex were keen to sing Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer for the coming season but were not signed due to their unavailability due to their commitments to Indian Premier League. Sussex Head Coach Jason Gillespie said that the county side is delighted to sign Rashid for this year’s NatWest T20 Blast. He said he has worked with leg-spinner for Adelaide Strikers in this year’s Big Bash League and was impressed with his work ethic.
Rashid has an impeccable record in the T20 format and averages 13.82 so far in his cricketing career. Sussex cricket director Keith Greenfield also expressed his pleasure of Rashid Khan signing for the county side for the coming season of NatWest T20 Blast.
