South Africa have named their squad for the second test against India to be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Saturday. Uncapped Lungi Ngidi and Duanne Olivier have included in the squad after South Africa’s premier pacer Dale Steyn have been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to heel injury picked up in the first game.
Olivier has been a part of South Africa’s Test squad and has played five games in the year 2017. He played two test matches played against Bangladesh at home. He made his debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka at Johannesburg last year. He has not made a big impact at the international level and has been struggling with injuries this season.
Ngidi also made his debut against Sri Lanka in T20 series played at home last year. Both the fast bowlers will be keen to their mark for South Africa in high-profile series against India. He played all three T20 games against Sri Lanka including his four-wicket haul at the Wanderers, Johannesburg. He has suffered from injuries that have kept him out of the game as he missed South Africa A team’s tour to England. He regained full fitness after four months and made a great comeback at the domestic level, taking nine wickets in his first game.
He has played for Titans in a domestic T20 competition and produced his best figures against Warriors. There is big chance Ngidi might feature in the lineup as he has got pace to rattle opposition batsmen. It could be a toss-up between him and Chris Morris for a place in the lineup for the second game at Centurion.
South Africa Squad for second game against India: Faf du Plessis (captain), Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock (wk), AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, , Dean Elgar, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada.
